fifty or so of my favorite albums

awhile back pitchfork media had a "people's list" social media clusterfuck sponsored by Converse or some garbage like that. anyway, this post is just an excuse to link to my very hastily done list before i lost the link to it forever:

as it turns out, i was in a small minority of women who decided to embark on making a list. this is addressed in the thoughts of these women that touch briefly on why the whole thing was so dude-heavy and why music criticism and the culture of endlessly making these lists takes what's appealing out of the music in the first place, and makes it all about pointless cultural dude posturing:

hopefully i will share more of my thoughts on this issue in a later post.

  1. That zoladz post was pretty compelling&important, wish it synthesized and went further with an "argument."

but onto the list oh boy oh boy a list

Obvs great to see stuff you got me into like Akron/Family, Fog, Good Morning Spider

Sooo glad to see Third and wow omfg James Blake made it hyes

Cool and more than a little surprising to see Wind's Poem higher than GlowPt2, but Elverum's getting to the point where I think he can't make a bad album (though I thought Mt. Eerie 2003 wasn't good). HIGHLY recommend Clear Moon and to a lesser extent Ocean Roar from this year.

surprised that vespertine beat homogenic, tho I know it's splitting hairs. i was about to be all enraged about WHERE IS POST but then I remembered that date range haaa.

Never knew you cared particularly for: the knife/fever ray, elliott smith, unwound, st. vincent (did I?), or scott walker. walker's great he's the basically the only musician left that still gives me oldschool emperor's new clothes vibes, totally irrational dismissal as bullshit. that's how I felt with the drift in 2006 and I was startled to find myself reacting to bish bosch EXACTLY THE SAME like I haven't matured a day.

I rediscovered that Wooden Wand album recently--you must've convinced me to get it--and wow it's amazing.

Actually always liked Geogaddi but also only recently had my "holy shit album of the decade contender" moment with that one.

Of course you're committed to this list forever now that you've made it.
